Charter school expansion in Louisiana has gone unchecked for too long. The Louisiana Legislature prescribed the chartering process in statute; however for the most part, it has been overlooked and disregarded by the charter approving authority.

The purpose of this petition is to urge Gov. John Bel Edwards to halt the approval and renewal of charter schools that do not meet the criteria set forth in statute via Executive Order. 1. Charter schools are increasing racial segregation and funneling taxpayer dollars to corporations. There should be a moratorium, but at the very least existing charter schools should meet state criteria.

  2. Please halt the approval and renewal of charter schools that do not meet the criteria set forth in statute via Executive Order.

  3. Charter schools are not the answer. Invest in the public schools and help those that are struggling instead of abandoning them.

  4. Please require charter schools to be held fully accountable to the law – the same laws traditional public schools must adhere to. Unfortunately our accountability system is dependent on both invalid and unreliable test and the whim of our state superintendent in calculating SPS. However, until all stakeholders are given their voice and their expertise respected, charters must be held accountable.

  5. No to Betsy DeVos!! She is far too extreme to have all of our nation”s children’s future in her hands. She has her own agenda and is NOT qualified. Having her in charge of America’s education department would be like asking someone to be a pilot just because they’ve been on a plane. Except she’s only been on a private plane.
